207/365 BBC Wildlife Magazine published image

It is great to see one of my images almost full page in the November issue of the BBC Wildlife Magazine! Check it out on page 58.
The image is of a group of Sanderling on a very windswept beach on South Uist, Outer Hebrides taken in September last year.
The current issue is on sale now from all good newsagents. More information on the current issue can be found here:http://www.discoverwildlife.com/issue/november-2013
Here’s the image:

124/365 Carrion Crow landscape

Here is another image of a Carrion Crow but this time showing it in its landscape.  This was taken with an 800mm focal length and the bird itself was 58.5m away from my position.
Most people think that if you have an 800mm lens then you can photograph birds from miles away. Even though this crow was fairly close, the 800mm still renders it small in the frame but shows the landscape off nicely.

081/365 Pochard against sunset

It is difficult to get sharp images of flying birds against sunsets purely due to the low light levels available. Pushing the camera ISO to 1000 I managed to get 1/1000th sec to get these Pochard silhouetted against a colourful sky.
