172/365 Lesser Black-backed Gull

Photographing in local towns and cities is something I tend not to do on a regular basis.  Sometimes though, a particular scene catches your eye and you think, giving the right situations, the possibility for a special image is there.  Most major cities will have their own local colony of Lesser Black backed Gulls.  This is the same for Worcester.  Passing the River that runs parallel to Worcester on several occasions I noticed that at certain times of day some of these gulls would have their daily preening session.  I’d also noticed the reflections of the buildings on the opposite side of the river.  I planned the photography to be done during the best weather conditions to make the most of the situation.  The image below is one of my favourites from the session.  Its definitely a place I will be going again as there are plenty of possibilities to be had here.

151/365 Venice view II

When we stepped out of the elevator at the top of the Camponile the views were breathtaking. Luckily for me, the morning had started off quite cloudy so the heat haze wasn’t as strong as the previous days so visibility was still good for photography.  Looking at all of the streets and houses and how compact they are, its no wonder we got lost on several occasions! 🙂 It was like a maze in there and from this height reminds of the ‘Where’s Wally’ books! (Still can’t find him in this though! 😉 )
This view is looking north from the tower with mainland Italy just visible on the horizon.

Another one of Venice taken from the Camponile Tower in St Marks Square. From this height if you look south-south west you can see across the Grand Canal over to the Santa Maria della Salute (Cathedral in the top right) and also the island of Giudecca (in the top left) with the Chiesa del Redentore (Redentore Church) visible.

149/365 Rialto Bridge, Venice

I’ve  just returned from a very special 30th birthday present to Venice, Italy.  I would highly recommend anybody thinking about visiting Venice to go as it’s a wonderful city with so many different things to see.  Very unlike me, I only took one body and one lens as it wasn’t a photographic trip but I still managed to spend half an hour capturing the Rialto Bridge during twilight.
This image was captured as two separate landscape images knowing I would stitch them together (very carefully!) using Photoshop.  As it was the 5D3 I used to take the images with the end file size was 104mb!
